Tequila with a Twist "Taryn"

Taryn was an unexpected but very lucky find. When her owner, Jessica Carlson, found out a daughter of two dogs dear to her heart had a litter sired by Hall of Fame, Dual and National Field Champion Tequila's Joker, she decided to buy a puppy and find it a good competition home. Little did she know that puppy would change her life in so many ways.

Taryn's co-owner in Canada had a friend, Vern Brunen, start her in the field and after he handled her to her juvenile points, Jessica was excited about Taryn's potential as a serious field trail competitor. Taryn came home at 11 months old and Ed Tillson first saw her run in January 2004. He came on board as co-owner, trainer, and handler, and together they won the 2004 Texas Derby Classic among other field trials that spring. Ed trained and ran Taryn in Open & Amateur stakes until turning pro in 2007, when Jessica became Taryn's sole owner and went on to run her in amateur stakes.

Taryn accomplished more in competition than her owner could have ever imagined. She had breaks in her career for actinomycosis treatment, two litters of puppies, and then a ligament injury in 2009 caused her to be retired at age 7. Despite all this, she managed to compile a record 25 all-age hour placements with eight first place wins. Twice she placed in the National All-Age Championship and was runner-up in the 2008 U.S. Open Championship. She finished second in Purina Award points in 2008 & 2009 and is the top all-time female points earner for the Purina Award with 4488 lifetime points.

Taryn received the 2007 Christy Feather Duster Award as the highest placing female at the National All-Age Championship. She went Best of Breed at the 2008 ABC National Specialty Show and was the ABC National Dual Award winner in 2005 & 2007.

Taryn was bred three times and her production record shows four dogs with a total of 20 hour winds. Her two most accomplished progeny are 3xCH/1xRU DC/AFC Shadow's Tequila Tryst, with five hour wins, and 8xCH/DC/AFC Tequila Scorcher, with 13 hour wins.
