Hall of Fame Inductee

VERMAZEN, DICK

Year Inducted : 2019

Dick Vermazen has been nicknamed "The Amazing Vermazen". He bought his first Springer Spaniel in 1968 and that purchase started a field trial career that has spanned over fifty years. His field trial success with "Buffie" was cut short by her early death, but laid the foundation for his accomplishments from then to this day. He handled four different dogs to national high point titles, got first and second in the 1984 Canadian Open National, and has achieved two National Open placements, three National Open CMs, two National Amateur placements, and nine West Point High Point dog titles. He was High Point Professional Handler in 1984 and 1987. He bred the 2000 National Open Champion.

Dick retired from field trials for a time, but returned to run dogs for some close friends and showed that he still had the skills to train and handle dogs successfully. He has won an estimated fifty plus local Open field trials.

Dick, in addition to his handling success, has judged over thirty field trials, including two National Open Championships. He has gunned numerous Amateur Championships, served as National Open president, and field trial chairman. He has served on over fifteen National Open or Amateur field trial committees.

Dick has served two separate three year terms on the Springer Spaniel Field Trial Hall of Fame Selection Committee and as a director on the ESSFTA Foundation board. He also served for numerous years on the ESSFTA Genetics and Health Committee.

He has served as Field Trial Chairman and Trial Committee member many times for his local club.

Without a doubt, Dick has earned the name "The Amazing Vermazen."
